Celebrating apprentices
At Bedelsford School, it is not just the pupils who are learning, staff are also on a journey of continuous professional development, none more so than those starting out on their career as apprentices.
Joe started his Teaching Assistant apprenticeship at Bedelsford School in January 2021 and is currently working with Emerald class. Before joining Bedelsford, he had previous experience of working in childcare and with SEN adults, so found this to be an ideal opportunity to merge his two experiences together.
“It’s very rewarding,” says Joe. “I learn something new every day and enjoy working with the children, seeing their growth and seeing them happy, smiling and enjoying themselves.”
Denise Heffernan, Head of Sixth Form and Secondary who is supporting Joe throughout his apprenticeship said, “The enthusiasm and commitment to learn and develop new skills is rewarding to see. Being part of the support process that benefits pupils, school and staff is one of the best elements of my job.”
Joe also takes part in virtual training provided by Orchard Hill College which provides him with added knowledge that he is able to put into practice. He is very positive about his apprenticeship, “It is a great way for younger people to be able to work, learn and earn at the same time.”
