Our Approach

Learning is personalised and carefully planned. We work towards the outcomes identified in each learner’s EHCP by adapting our teaching, environment and support to meet the individual needs of our learners.

Our learners benefit from:

  • Specialist teachers and skilled support staff
  • Calm, consistent routines
  • Communication-friendly classrooms
  • Sensory-aware learning environments
  • Personalised learning linked to EHCP outcomes
  • High expectations for every learner
  • A strong focus on communication, independence and wellbeing
  • Close partnership working with families and professionals

We know that progress looks different for every learner. For some, this may be communicating a choice, joining a group activity or becoming more independent. For others, it may be developing literacy and numeracy, building friendships, improving emotional regulation or achieving personal goals. Every achievement is recognised and celebrated.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is broad, ambitious and meaningful. It is designed to help every learner make meaningful progress towards the outcomes in their EHCP while preparing them for the next stage of their education and future beyond Bedelsford Chaucer Centre.

Learning is carefully planned to develop:

  • Communication: We support our learners to express themselves, understand others and participate fully using the communication approaches that work best for them.
  • Cognition and Learning: build knowledge, thinking skills, literacy, numeracy and problem-solving.
  • Personal Development: develop independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Social Development: build positive relationships, social interaction and participation in school life.
  • Physical and Sensory Development: support physical skills, sensory regulation and access to learning.
  • Preparation for the Future: developing everyday life skills and independence so learners are well prepared for their next stage of education and beyond.

Through a rich and engaging curriculum, we support every learner to achieve their personal best and become as independent as possible.

Working Together

We believe learners make the greatest progress when families, school and other professionals work together.

Parents and carers know their learner best, and we value the important role they play in their education. We work closely with families, therapists and other professionals to ensure support is joined up, consistent and focused on achieving the outcomes identified in each learner’s EHCP.

Everything we do is centred on helping every learner achieve meaningful progress, reach their EHCP outcomes and become as independent and confident as possible.
