Sensory stories for National Storytelling Week
This National Storytelling Week (and every week) we enjoy bringing stories to life in the Bedelsford classrooms using props, smells and sounds. Staff immerse the pupils into stories using sensory storytelling techniques to give them a full immersive 3D experience.
Pupils in Hippos Class have been enjoying the book Rose Revere Engineer by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts. They are following her adventures as she invents marvellous machines in the attic whilst everyone else is fast asleep.
Rosie decides to build a flying machine, and everyone enjoys feeling the wind of their faces as they imagine flying through the air. But the machine wobbles and falls, landing on the ground with a soft bump. Rosie’s aunt scoops her up in a soft blanket and words of encouragement saying, ‘The only true failure is not trying at all!’
The class love snuggling into the blanket and can’t wait to hear about Rosie’s next adventure!
If you would like to try sensory storytelling at home, do talk to your class teacher for some ideas of techniques they use in school.
