Music Therapy

There are three music therapists working across the school week at Bedelsford School. We aim to support the children to develop their self-expression and social interaction skills, and support their emotional and psychological well-being. We provide individualised therapeutic support to enable children and young people to safely explore their emotions, and share their thoughts and feelings using music, song, sounds, gestures, and movements. Music therapists support children to maximise their skills and resources, work on things they find difficult, as well as to celebrate their developing capacities which might emerge in musical expression. Sessions can also support children to use their imagination and creativity to explore and express their identity through music and engage in shared creative experiences with others.  Children can be offered individual, paired or group music therapy sessions.

Sessions can include:

  • Spontaneously improvised music making
  • Songs and song writing
  • Known songs or pre-composed music

Music therapists use individualised communication aids and assistive music technology to support children engage in their sessions with the greatest independence, and work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Music therapists are registered with, and regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).  For more information about Music Therapy please visit

The school is truly ‘outstanding’ indeed and we don’t mean just in the sense of how Ofsted have classified it.
